About The Goa Project

The Goa project is a volunteer-run attempt by a group of passionate individuals who are entrepreneurs, designers, artists, musicians and the likes. Their aim is to create a forum where they can speak beyond the languages of their profession. We are young,
energetic and as such the forum is not for the "done and retiring",
but for the "up and coming" generation, and the hope is that through
the fusion of art, culture, ambitions and technology, we will find a
unified voice to express our creativity. The Goa Project is a trip to
discover, find mutual admiration, to learn and redefine oneself, and
what one creates there on.

Entrepreneurism, is one of the three tracks on Day 2 of The Goa
Project. We want to explore the limits of what Entrepreneurism means,
talk about the success stories, the secrets you don't usually share in
public, the individuals and teams who dare to create something out of
nothing (in a commercial environment) and succeed or fail to learn
something valuable. Got graying hair? Help us younger folk attain the
zen of building startups. Tell us about best practices in opportunity
spotting and in working style, of how to organize our files and how to
assemble crack teams. Teach us about hustling, but still staying
within the boundaries of the law of the land. You get the drift?

Film & Video — Film is amongst the 3 tracks on Day 1 of The Goa
Project. We wish to bring together all the forces behind the magic on
screen. From producing to acting, editing to choreography,
cinematography to costume design, computer graphics to set design,
publicity design to script writing, we'd like to bring together
professionals from every facet of cinema and discuss what it took for
them to be there, the hurdles faced, the solutions invented, the way
the industry works and the way ahead. We will also delve into
important and interesting questions like what that we need to do to
set new standards and adapt to forthcoming technologies. Darwinism
applies here too. So we want to know what it takes to survive among
over a billion viewers. Let’s put the left side of our brains to best
use. Lights, Camera, Action!

Fringe — The planet (and, indeed, our species) owes its current
position to those who kept saying 'What If?' and then went ahead and
did it. If you are one of these, we want you in here! You could be a
musician, a scientist, a housewife, or anything else. You could be
working towards making death unnecessary for any human, or have
designed a building that's based on a Javanese art form. Anything,
really - that showcases the human tendency to push beyond the borders
of the known. Here's where you get your chance to interact, play and
mash up your ideas in front of a crowd of the brightest and most
unconventional minds you'll ever see.

Performing Arts and Music — Tap to the beat. Laugh out loud. Hit that
note. Draw. Fill & Shade. Dramatize. Rise. Repeat. And within all of
it, go figure how arts help you free up your mind, blur boundaries and
dream. In this teach-in play-out format, we explore great ideas in
music, art, theatre and technology with an Indian context. Inspired by
a country with countless rivulets of cultures, this thread will make a
deliberate attempt to cross over various arts genres and talk trend.
Since the 90s, two major movements have transformed the way we
perceive each other – internet and the globalisation of culture via
media. Music, theatre, photography, dance have gone beyond the
classical and the commercial; independent performance this time
fuelled by the rise of social media and start-ups rather than
mainstream media. Are you riding this wave? Are you an enthusiastic
artist or an aspiring venue owner? Perhaps you have set up a festival
amongst beautiful landscapes or concrete jungles. If you are
contributing to this beautiful eco system, come be a part us, and lets
learn a little bit more about each other.

Society — The word ‘Society’ is an extremely complex term used to
indicate the groupings of humans, their consequent impact on each
other and their interactions with the universe. This track tries to
piece together this complexity in 20 Monocles, which are broad and yet
remain specialized streams of thought, action and stratification. Each
Monocle will be examined by the participants of the track, and its
ties to other Monocles will be explored through discussion, talks and
visual mapping. This is the list of Monocles: Cities/ Culture/
Education/ Economy/ Environment/ Gender/ Health/ Internet/ Knowledge/
Law & Justice/ Literature/ Governance/ Mobility/ Race & Ethnicity/
Sustainability/ Equality/ Social Networks/ Creativity & Expression/
Freedom/ Crime & Anomie. What you bring in? We want to hear about
stories of social change, what you have done differently to turn
around the systems of decay, successful working models within the
social sector and those who didn't make the cut, how is social media
and technology playing a role here...the Creative Commons, the birth
of the Occupy Movement, Right to Education and the City, Censorship,
Anonymous Hacktivism, Human Development Index, Social & Participatory
Democracies, Equitable Food Production, Open Source, Post-Oil Futures,
Information Societies... We would love to hear it all!!

Visual Arts + Design — What is Visual Art and Design today. Technology
has enabled artists and designers to play in the diverse arenas of
animation, typography, advertising, installation art, interactive art,
social sculptures, photography, branding, community art and what have
you, to create experiences that are multi-form, viral,
cross-discipline and immersive. This track is a platform to debate,
discuss, and dwelve deep into those topics. Have experience working
with Typefaces? Created characters for games, or backgrounds for a
game world? Talk about User Interfaces for the average user, who are
boarding into the digital world in the millions, and of artists using
ipads and touch screens as the new age canvases. Jump in and let's get
talking, making and learning!

Workshops — We are aiming to host Workshops - be it for an hour, two
hours, half a day or even a day, where an expert can come do a session
on teaching a skillset, a craft or even share best practices. Know
someone who is a pottery maker? Or someone who can fold origami or be
it more productive skills like the art of story telling, video
editing, chocolate making (Yum!), or say learning how to Paint - You
get the idea right? We welcome proposals for that. The Workshops will
be a parallel session to the already set tracks. We will do our utmost
to help you with any or all of the materials required to do the
session.

Commitment to Sharing

We believe in open source as the binding force
of our community. What you share, will be used in the Goa Project
Communities, videos recorded (unless specicially asked not to - for a
off-the-record topic) will be shared with the audience and the
community around The Goa Project.
