Objective
To open up the subtler nuances of Angelo Da Fonseca's artistic mission to create an Indic atmosphere in his paintings.
Description
Goan artist Angelo Da Fonseca ( 1902-1967)was influenced by the Bengal school having been closely guided by Abanindranath Tagore. His mission to indigenize Christian iconography created some new thoughts on how Indian Christian art could be fashioned in the postcolonial world. The Madonna and Child theme recurred in his work with great passion. This lecture will focus on the women who were his muse in the fashioning of an Indian Madonna.
