to give an opportunity to participants to immerse themselves in the exclusive world of photographing the performing arts and experimenting with pinhole camera.
Performance is experienced live; the elation is momentary and authentic for both performer and audience in an event that could not be repeated. But the performance can be captured and documented to ensure its enduring life, even though theatre and photography are considered two opposite poles of a broad spectrum, the former being then the ultimate incarnation of time-based presence, the latter representing its opposite, nevertheless, photography establishes the existence of the performance, the images that result from recordings of an event nothing but autonomous works of art. This short course gives an opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in the exclusive world of photographing the performing arts and experimenting with pinhole camera. Pinhole photography is diagonally opposite of instant photography. The suspended and ambiguous atmosphere that reigns on the lens-less images is the result of a very special relation with time which capture the energy exchange that comes from a live performance. The pinhole results are distinctly analog movement and a surreal mix of fact and fantasy. This short course offers a chance to explore the basic notion and engineering of the elusive pinhole camera design and construction. The first part of the course to build pinhole camera from recycled and alternative materials like matchbox, milk tins, coke cans, etc... The second half of the course will be spent testing the new pinhole camera—taking pictures and experimenting and to immerse in the exclusive world of photographing the performing arts.
