Speaker bio
Pragnya Wakhlu is a professional musician , composer and and the founder of Mousai India. A graduate of Indian Institute of Management(IIM) Bangalore(Management in Entrepreneurship) ; her passion for working with music and people led her to quit her career as a software professional at Infosys Technologies,USA and delve into research on the healing powers of music & movement. After experiments & research along with a dance therapist in Pune, she founded her own company Mousai in 2009 that aims at taking workshops for people to help them to be more positive, liberated, joyous & creative .
Pragnya is one of the few independent woman musicians & guitarists in the Indian music circuit. She released her solo album “Journey to the Sun” independently in 2012 and bagged the 3rd place for “Best Female Vocalist” at the Southeast Asia Music Awards. “Journey to the Sun” was also nominated for the prestigous Global Indian Music Awards(GIMA) for the ‘Best Pop Album’ & ‘Best Music Debut’ categories.She earned 2 nominations at the Jack Daniel’s Rock awards for ‘Best Female Vocalist’. 2 of her singles are released on Shubha Mudgal’s label Underscore records and have been used for the British movie ” Monsoon Theater”.
Her music video “Rise” is currently the most watched music video on India Music Network with over 1 lakh hits.
In her free time Pragnya maintains an informative blog for musicians - A musicians musings and also guest writes as the music writer for the website ‘Happy Tripping’
She currently performs solo with looper pedals and with her four piece funk-rock outfit FRUZU.
Pragnya has played at The Storm festival, Kala Ghoda festival, Great Indian October festival, Kasauli Rhythm & Blues festival among others..
Giving back to society has always been something close to Pragnya’s heart. You will often find her rallying up people in a human chain to save the hills, organizing funds for disaster victims or volunteering her time at an NGO.
