This is a proposal requesting for someone to speak on this topic. If you’d like to speak, leave a comment.

Objective

How do we begin to address and negotiate stereotyped notions of the ideal body type for performance - be it in dance, theatre or cinema - both from the point of view of artists and as audiences?

Description

How do attributes like size, height and skin colour affect a performer? In theatre and dance, performers are often expected to be a certain body type or are stereotyped based on their existing appearance. For instance, dancers feel the pressure to be skinny, and actors are bulking up at the gym to address the demands of onscreen performance, often at the cost of their technique and voice. Would like to invite artists and those who watch performance to bring some perspective to this issue.

Requirements

Their opinions/ a desire to engage!
